Native Plant Landscaping Benefits

The benefits of a native plant landscape include: enhanced beauty and harmony, less ecological decline in the community, water conservation, elimination of insecticides, reduction or elimination of fertilizers, a necessary link of the wildlife food chain and nesting sites, life-cycle low maintenance cost savings, enhancing the quality of life for citizens and adding to property values.

Environmentally Friendly | Aesthetically Pleasing

As an integral component of environmentalism, the native plant movement is advanced by those who want to repair the damages done to nature by earlier generations and to put measures in place so that a future vision of communities in Florida replace what is taken away and impacted during development.

Florida-friendly Landscapes

Florida is one of the most bio-diverse regions on earth. Native ecosystems contribute to the vast ecological services that all residents of and visitors to Florida depend on. Native plants must be better incorporated into the urban and suburban landscapes; to do this municipal landscape ordinances need to reflect a minimum percentage of native plant usage, water conservation and the ability to utilize conservation oriented land planning techniques.

Preserving Florida

There are approximately 2,800 native plants in Florida’s many diverse ecosystems. With as many as 551 of these plants on the Threatened & Endangered list, it is clear that we must change our approach to landscaping if we hope to create nesting sites and food for our local wildlife and retain biodiversity.

Urban Park

Creating Eco-Positive Change

Florida needs to craft new land development standards and methods for urban development with the incorporation of a minimum percentage of native ecosystem preservation. Such standards will help sustain our unique and diverse native flora as well as improve the management of ground and surface water by reducing fertilizer and insecticide pollutants.

Benefiting the Environment

Paramount is the belief that our work must benefit the larger environment in which we live, enriching the natural heritage of people and plants and improving the ecology of the community on even the smallest of project sites.

Promoting Biodiversity

Native plants will play a key role in the restoration of our living spaces because only natives provide the co-evolved relationships required by birds, butterflies, wildlife and pollinators. There are 77% more pairs of breeding birds on sites planted with native plants - and 117% more native bird species on native sites. (Tallamy, 2009)

Office and Medical Campuses

NFC Landscape Architects, Inc. design office parks and medical campuses which have exterior environments that inspire. Always included are aesthetic ecologically oriented stormwater ponds, meandering planted walkways, seating areas landscaped for shade, intricate plantings, seasonal bloom times, promotion of outdoor socialization, lunch time respites and contributions to the ecology that was once natural on the site.

Harmonious Cities

With careful attention to detail, we design with the latest innovations and conservation methods while respecting the history and origins of the site. This detail oritened design process helps us to create a sense of place where development sites and environmental needs can be balanced. This balance promotes water conservation, harmonious and beautiful design, an optimally functioning site, low maintenance, natural bio-retention and the environmental and economic benefits of ecologically oriented Landscape Architecture.

Promoting Biodiversity

By supporting a diversity of insect herbivores, native plants provide food for a large and healthy community of natural enemies that keep herbivores in balance and our landscapes aesthetically pleasing. We need biodiversity for long term human health and preserving natural resources. We need to change landscaping paradigms to save biodiversity.
